Mother Goose on the Loose is an award-winning early-literacy program for children from birth through preschool in Vigo County and is funded by the Vigo county Public Library and United Way’s Success By 6.
In the library:
Mother Goose has storytimes every first Saturday and every first Thursday at the main branch and every second Monday at the West branch. More information can be found here.
Parents/caregivers sit in a semi-circle around the room with their child and participate in songs and rhymes. Mother Goose on the Loose songs and activities are repeated each session beacause research shows that repetition is one of the best ways for children to learn. Children who attend MGOL frequently enjoy the songs more as they learn them.
In preschools:
MGOL visits a group of childcares every month throughout Vigo County for a one year term. She also works with providers to encourage the Five Early Literacy Practice (read, write, talk, sing, play). If you are interested in having MGOL visits at you childcare give Mother Goose a call at 812-232-1113 Ext 2298. The program is hugely popular and fills up quickly. You can also sign up on the waiting list here.
